As if appearing in Seinfeld and MADtv weren't impressive enough achievements, Pat Kilbane has decided to venture into the world of publishing with his graphical horror novel (co-authored with zombie author J.D. McGhoul), "The Brain Eater's Bible". It's now available in both hardcover formats and in its ideal form, as an interactive iPad app.
The Brain Eater's Bible packs 160 pages of zombie guts, gore, and humor into an interactive app that works in two ways. When viewed in portrait view, the app is an e-book with loads of gruesome and cleverly-written content for the zombie enthusiast. Each page contains interactive content that can be accessing by tapping on it to either activate the animations or to zoom in on the high quality imagery.

Not the most flattering author's photo.
When viewed in landscape mode, you get a glimpse of McGhoul's media workbench, which features 18 videos, animation, and other interactive content. For example, McGhoul's notebook is full of inside information previously not shared outside of the zombie community.
The photographs, anatomical diagrams, high quality video, and animations are immersive and offer a perfect mid-summer escape into the zombie world. Although it's classified as a graphical horror novel, we found the writing to be rather humorous if dark humor suits your comedic senses.

Tools of the trade.
In addition to the clever content in The Brain Eater's Bible, this app has an efficiency and stability that's often lacking in e-books that are densely packed with media content. The app is user-friendly and features a help guide and table of contents to make searching for the content you want simple and efficient. The help and table of contents can be activated by double-tapping at the bottom of the screen from either view.
Although it's not quite worthy of a Must Have rating (despite their popularity, zombies and horror-style apps aren't for everyone), we have minimal gripes with this app. We'd like it better if the font sizes could be adjusted or changed for more easily legible, crisper fonts, although it may detract from the overall feel of the app.
Still, we feel The Brain Eater's Bible is a perfect view into the zombie world or simply a humorous escape from life's day to day stresses. Also, what's not to appreciate about Pat Kilbane's works as an actor or writer? He's pure genius.
