Super Monkey Ball 2: Sakura Edition is a fairly faithful brand extension onto the iPad.

Not too long ago, we put Super Monkey Ball 2 through its paces on the iPhone. It was good, not great, and now Sega has ported its batch of cute monkeys over to the iPad. Super Monkey Ball 2: Sakura Edition is essentially just a super sized version of Super Monkey Ball 2.

Sakura Edition extends the feature set from its predecessor in an impressive way. Sega has packed on an additional 10 levels to bring the total count to around 125. Also included are a couple of new minigames that are decent. Up to four players can get down in Monkey Base, a Brickbreaker-style game that gives everyone their own corner of the iPad.

More fun than a ball full of monkeys.

The visuals also took leap in fidelity along the way, too. Everything is 3D rendered, and for the most part the graphics are on point. On some levels, though, the frame rate struggles to keep up with all the activity.

The tilt controls we had issues with in the iPhone version haven't gone away with the iPad’s bulkier size. Apparently Sega wasn’t listening when we requested some alternate control schemes.

Overall this is a good port, but there are still a few bruises in this banana.

If I could have one port and/or remake for iphone it would be Ape Escape from PlayStation! You can't beat platforming with monkeys!
