Samsung Betting on S-Pen Stylus, Do People Care?

News Posted by Raymond Padilla, January 25th, 2012

The word on the street is that Samsung will be integrating its S-Pen stylus into a number of tablets and phones in 2012. Currently, the S-Pen can be found in one product: the Samsung Galaxy Note "phablet" PC. Of course Samsung was going to use the S-Pen in other products; it would have been incredibly inefficient to just have it in the Galaxy Note and it needs to be in more products if developers are going to create S-Pen apps. The question is, do people really want to use a stylus in 2012 and beyond?

Personally, I have no use for a stylus. I'm used to typing or using Swype for writing anything. Any time I have to hand write something, it feels strange and foreign. I also suck at art, so using a stylus to draw or doodle doesn't do much for me.

I'd love your take on the matter. Do you think people want tablets and phones that use a stylus? Is it an antiquated form or input? Or will the S-Pen take off as developers create great apps for it?
