I was super psyched when I left my apartment this morning and discovered that Google has finally launched an official Gmail app for iOS. You see, I'm a Gmail power user. I'm currently juggling five Gmail accounts ( two proper Gmail accounts and three through Google Apps) and I love using different labels, stars, etc. The native iOS email client is limited when it comes to Gmail-specific features. The Gmail web client is much better, but doesn't allow for push notifications and requires me to sign in and out of multiple accounts. Gmail for Android is aces (and it ought to be since it's Google's platform). For millions of Gmail users like me, a native Gmail app for iOS was a sweet, sweet dream. Sadly, that dream was taken away by the time I got home from the movie set.

Even though Apple approved the Gmail app, it needed more cooking from Google. The app contained several bugs, including one that broke email notifications (kind of an important feature). Google has pulled the app and promised an update soon. As someone that has dreamed about a native iOS Gmail client, this was almost cruel. The dream was in reach...but then it was pulled away.
The good news is that the dream is real. It's just going to take a little bit longer for it to fully materialize. Did any of you download the iOS Gmail app before it was pulled? Did any of you have their dreams crushed by seeing and missing out on this app?
