Remember that fantastic IDG Connect iPad survey I wrote about earlier in the week? Here's another tidbit from it. Apparently the iPad is causing business professionals to buy a lot less physical media. Check out some shocking numbers on how the iPad is killing book, newspaper, and DVD sales below.
Here are the percentages according to the survey:
Newspaper sales down 72 percent
Book sales down 70 percent
DVD sales down 49 percent
The newspaper number isn't too surprising; that form of media has been dying for a long time thanks to the Internet. I was actually shocked by how high the book and DVD numbers were. For sure the iPad has caused those numbers to decline, but I didn't think they'd be that high.
Then again, perhaps I just know too many people that are attached to physical media (they're insane, for the record). What do you make of IDG's findings? Are they what you expected? Or are you surprised by how much the iPad is affecting physical media sales among business professionals.
