iFitness HD is a stellar workout companion and cost-saver for those of you considering personal training or simply looking for a new exercise routines.

Wish you could afford a personal trainer but spent all your hard-earned dollars buying an iPad? Bored of your typical gym routine and looking for a new workout? Or are you a trainer who’d like to have some resources to share with your clients? Either way, iFitness HD may become your new gym companion!

Think of iFitness HD as a comprehensive workout catalog consisting of over 330 illustrated exercise routines and an additional 175 videos of routines. These images and video clips will ensure that you perform each exercise properly, gaining the most from each routine while preventing physical injuries and muscular strain from improper movements. You may also add your own routines and track your progress; this makes it more than just a catalog and more like an interactive fitness journal.

Exercises are categorized by the area of the body they target or their style, such as cardio or stretch routines. If you’re looking for equipment-specific workouts, there is a way to search for those, as well. If you’re working on strengthening a specific muscle, there is a search feature with a diagram of the human body allowing you to identify that muscle (especially helpful if you don’t remember its name) and view a list of recommended routines.

Don't forget your spotter!

As a frequent gym-goer but one who does so forcefully due to boredom with my current workouts, I’ve found this app to be invigorating and inspirational. I’ve been able to find the workouts I need to target specific areas of my body that have been neglected for years during my typical workout routines. I was enthused about the strength-training routines, as the instructional photos and text explanations increased my confidence that I would be doing them correctly. For those of you who are also self-motivated but constantly bored of your gym routines, this app is an ideal resource. The ability to log workouts is also extremely useful, and the developer has incorporated a weight monitor and BMI calculator to simplify the tracking of your progress.

Although the app does not have all exercises in its repository, it still contains a significant amount. The ability to add routines is a plus, allowing for fully-customizable workouts. Additionally, because the developer has promised many updates--especially for the iPad version of the app--it’s very likely that the exercise list will grow to be much more comprehensive in the near future. One feature that this app would benefit tremendously from in future updates, however, would be the ability to keep a log of nutritional information. Even until then, we strongly recommend this app given its $3.99 price tag, which is a fraction of a single personal training session.
